DISMANIBUS
Local melodic death band and titans of the Essex metal scene, are launching their magnum opus concept album ‘Dacia’ at the Colchester Arts Centre, in what promises to be a night of truly epic aural brutality. "Dismanibus, for those who have never seen them live, are simply one of the most enjoyable bands you will see in the Essex area." - Jack Fryer, Metal Recusants.
The album follows the life story of a Dacian aristocrat, later to be remembered as an infamous traitor, Bikilis. From assisting his life-long friend and mentor, Decebal, in claiming the throne, following the unexpected death of their king Duras, we see them consolidate power among the Dacian tribes, outmaneuver the Roman emperor Domitian, to pressure Rome into signing a treaty on terms extremely favourable to the ascendant Dacian kingdom and begin to build Dacian fortifications across the lands north of the Danube. The story follows their early victories and subsequent changes in fortune with the rise of a new Roman emperor and seasoned general, Trajan, as he sets his sights on Dacian conquest. It closes on Bikilis’ descent into despair, disillusionment, betrayal and sorrow, as the Dacian people find themselves on the receiving end of one of the only documented Roman wars of extermination... a harrowing reminder of what the civilised world is capable of in its quest for control of wealth and coveted natural resources.
Never knowingly understood.
