In a world of bands that sound like other bands - Hobo Chang sound like Hobo Chang.
HOBO CHANG are a 5 piece band from North East Essex. They write original songs and sound experimental and authentic with their roots in blues, jazz, reggae and the good bits of rock. They have headlined some fantastic venues, played festivals, live radio shows, charity gigs, wakes, boats, had their share of playing dives and the occasional very unconventional wedding.
Hobo Chang have gigged with Lee Scratch Perry & The Upsetters, John Cooper Clarke, Toots & The Maytals, Imperial Leisure, The Vibrators, The Beat, Easy Star Allstars, Buzzcocks, Geno Washington, King Ayisoba and many more well known artists.
They have secured publishing deals with their 2013 debut album Smalltown Troubles and their follow up album BEAST released April 2017 and latest EP Clockwork Monster released Nov 2019 and are in the process of recording a new EP for release in July 2024.
They have a strong fanbase, support from local press, healthy social media presence, you tube plays, internet radio plays and have had tunes played on BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Essex Introducing and BBC Suffolk Introducing and John Cooper Clarke is a massive fan.
Hobo Chang are totally DIY and produce and release their own EPs and Albums, all artwork, promo and merchandising is done by the band. They love to play live, organising their own live music events and feel very strongly about keeping the declining live music scene alive.
