Jøtnarr

Artist Profile

"A black metallish Black Sabbath for Punks" from Colchester, UK

JØTNARR is an active British underground extreme metal band hailing from Colchester, Essex, England. Formed in 2013, the band is a trio known for blending the freezing atmospheric textures of black metal with the aggressive, raw kinetic energy of hardcore punk, melodic crust, and screamo.

Their lyrics heavily touch upon themes of loss, grief, environmental degradation, and the natural world. They take their name from the mythical monsters featured in the 2010 Norwegian dark fantasy film The Troll Hunter

The band's signature sound juxtaposes blistering blast beats, massive riffs, and throat-acid vocals alongside unexpected, soaring melodic interludes and quiet post-metal moments of pathos. Music critics and underground labels frequently recommend them for fans of bands like early Ulver, Wolves in the Throne Room, and His Hero Is Gone.
